When Your Computer is in the Shop…

I usually head on over to Watkins Station’s fully-equipped business center with Internet connections. Personally I’m very attached to our online world and a few days ago when my computers finally decided to leave this world (5 years old) I was completely lost.
Not being able to update my status or tweet about my dilemma I wasn’t sure what do to next. Then I remembered that Watkins Station offers us a great amenities. The business center came in handy because I was able to look up a computer repair store close to town. Of course after setting up my appointment I vigorously tweeted about it.
Using Slip Covers!

When I first moved into an apartment I had second-hand sofas. When I first got them I knew they needed a face lift. First I vacuumed them, then I scrubbed them and they still didn’t look their best. Hey I guess you can’t “fix/help” a floral print.
Knowing I couldn’t replace my sofas I had to find a different alternative. Slip covers. This way I didn’t spend too much money and I still had the choice of what I wanted. If your sofas need a face lift, try a slip cover!
Slip covers are very easy to use and they come in so many options! You can choose the material, the print, and the color!

How do you freshen up your apartment?

How do you keep your apartment fresh? Do you use candles, scented room sprays, reed diffusers or scented plug-ins? Personally I will always use the traditional candle. I love the glow and “warmth” a candle gives off, it’s my favorite. Vote on our poll and let us know what you think. Don’t see what you use on the list? Comment on the blog and let us know!

Test your American knowledge. We’re celebrating Independence this weekend, but how well do you know your country?
Answer the first question on the poll and see if you can guess the remaining questions!
- How many verses does the Star Spangled Banner have?
- What is the last line of the last verse of our National Anthem?
- Who wrote the Star Spangled Banner?
- What is our national bird?
- How were fireworks invented?
Answer 4 out of the 5 questions correctly by commenting and you’ll be featured on the blog as the smartest American at Watkins Station!
Don’t forget the fireworks show from our last post for the weekend!

The iPhone 4 was released to the public yesterday. Lines were crazy. Reviews were posted on the reception and yellow grainy parts. But on top of all that cases were released.
With the new iPhone 4 design, several cases were released. iFrogz is my favorite case design and you can purchase it at Best Buy for $29.99 in several colors: grey, pink, black/blue, green, and red/black. The case covers the entire back of the phone to avoid scratches and it has a softer and chic look.
Other places to look if you want to save money are on Amazon.com or try iPhone 4 Cases.
Problems with Spokeo

Anyone seen Spokeo? It’s a social network site that gathers your information from online and offline sources. Visit the site and type in your name and you could see your personal information come up.
It’s shares your: pictures, age, estimated property, wealth values, home address, credit scores, and even your phone number. Do you want this info up for the general public? It’s a little scary when you think about it, but you can remove yourself from the site.
All you need to do is type in your name, copy the URL, hit the privacy button at the bottom of the screen, and you can remove yourself from the site.
Here is the info I found on Snopes.com!

WOOT

I love finding deals and bargains, so Woot.com is a favorite of mine. It’s an online store that sells things with ridiculously low prices. Everyday they sell a new product for one day only (or until they sell out) with a special price. It’s become so popular so they’ve opened up:
Today’s item for Woot.com is a Rowenta Full-Size Commercial Garment Steamer. It’s $69.99 + 5 shipping. Steaming is 100x’s better than ironing, so I might have to breakdown and get this product. It’s great for furniture and your clothes, so it’s worth the investment. Interested? Then click the “I Want One!” button!

Watkins Gives Back
May 5, 2010 by Stephanie

One of the residents at Fox Run, Bonita, participated in the referral contest showing us her kindness. If you read Bonita’s story it’s very touching. She gave her $100 gift card to a family who needs help. We want to extend Bonita’s kindness and our community at Watkins Station to participate in a donation drive to help this family.
Here’s the background on the family:
This family (one of my son’s friends) fell on hard luck due to the recession and her family is now scattered about at different relatives homes. The girl who I am trying to save her dignity (Shaira)for the most part, floats around w/her younger son. My son, always answers the door to her and her son and helps them whether it be a meal, a place to clean up, or even sleep. The family recently applied for an apt and was approved for the appt. She got the assistance of the state for the first month rent, but needs help with the security deposit.
What they need:
- financial help
- food
- clothes
- household items
- furniture
- any or all donations would be accepted and grateful
If you want to help, please drop off any of these items in the Leasing Office!
